Pourquoi une fanfare rock ?
"Fanfaronne The Rock", the Seventies Rock'n'roll brass band , is voluntarily
limited to the repertory representing the half-dozen years of Hippie effervescence , Janis Joplin,
Jimi Hendrix, Led zeppelin, Stones and Beatles. It is Woodstock, Isle Of Wight,
Timoty Leary, Ken Kesey, Peace and Love, Robert Crumb and Mister Natural, Antoine (Hippie french singer) and his "élucubrations",
Polnareff (French singer) and its human nature, Gainsbourg (French singer) seeking its Lolita "chez les Yéyés".
Hippie movement is indissociable with the music wich accompanies it.
Tomboul arranger and conceptor of this brass band, returned to its first musical loves,
when he began playing electric bass with the rock'n'roll standards from his time.
End of the Sixties and at the beginning of Seventies, the rock'n'roll was in full search for originality.
Innovators like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Soft Machine etc...
and in France, Gong with David Allen enriched the popular music: new harmonies, risky rhythmic sequences,
the incursion of the ethnic musics under the impulse of Brian Jones with "Paint It black" opened new and
very diverse horizons with the rock'n'roll. They conquered a new public which was before essentially some fanatic teenagers
pushing wild cries in front of the appearance of the "rock'n'roll star".
By discovering the Sousaphone, tuba, and while playing by many Bandas of south from France and by New Orleans Brass Band ,
Tomboul which played then mainly double bass, in Jazz, ethnic or French song on scene, quickly clung to this kind of musical
expression which is the brass band, offering many possibilities of direct contact and mobility with the public.
It is while directing an amateur brass band , that Tomboul had the idea to make arrangements rock'n'roll for « La Pekno Parade
» of Crest (26), while starting with "Satisfaction" of Rolling Stones or
"Smoke One The Water" of Deep Purple. This music gave the opportunity to this brass band to playing with an unsual
energy and a strong communion with the public. From there, was born the desire for going further in this
musical form. Tomboul then decided to recruit professional musicians to be able to approach pieces like "Money"
of Pink Floyd, "Kashmir" of Led zeppelin or "Purple Haze" of Jimi Hendrix with more packed chorus. Moreover,
the use of Brass instrument makes it possible to arrange and repair these standards to give some winks to the jazz without
losing the energy and the heart of the rock'n'roll.
